![]() ![]() I do not recall it doing this before this problem cropped up. The new thing I noticed is with the ignition on, but car not started, after the coolant level light coming on steady, with all of the other dash board indicator lights, it then starts blinking and continues to blink even when the engine is not on. I want to add another symptom and reiterate one I already mentioned. Still looking for a solution to this problem. I appreciate any help I can get diagnosing this problem. Looking at the wiring diagram I do not see where the indicator light is in anyway tied to the radiator fan circuit. ![]() Could the light be related to the drivers side fan not coming on? I am looking into trouble shooting the radiator fan, and getting that ready by spring, but I don’t know if that will solve the blinking light problem anyway. The one on the passenger side works fine and kicks on and brings the coolant temperature down perfectly when needed. I also checked the continuity from the instrument cluster connector through the coolant level sensor, with the coolant level full, through to ground point 8 (GP8) and I have continuity the whole way.Īny ideas on what else could be causing this light to blink slowly? I also noticed that the radiator fan on the drivers side is not working when the engine gets hot enough for it to kick on. I also checked the wiring from the coolant level sensor connector in trunk all the way to connector to the instrument cluster and there is continuity the whole way (both connectors are disconnected so I am not getting a false reading). At full the sensor is a closed circuit and at a low level the sensor is and open circuit, exactly the same as the new sensor, so now I have a spare coolant level sensor. After doing some additional testing with the original sensor (draining out fluid and testing continuity at the sensor) I have pretty much convinced myself that the original sensor is fine. Once the new one came in I filled the old tank that I removed with coolant and installed the new sensor in it and hooked the connector to the sensor and the light still blinked. In fact I was pretty sure that was the culprit and ordered one. The next thing I explored was the coolant level sensor. ![]() ![]() Consequently, I checked out the blower fan, temperature sensor, and relay for that circuit and they all check out, and I was able to idle the car long enough for the engine compartment fan to come on as I would expect. So I started poking around in this forum, and from my research the other reason for a slowly blinking light is the engine compartment temperature is too high. As I said at the start, I immediately started monitoring the coolant level and temperature and nothing suspicious was manifest with regard to that. Then for no apparent reason the light started blinking again. So I pulled the plastic tank, replaced it, bled the system and for well over a month there was no blinking light. I pulled the liner in the trunk, and sure enough, coolant was on the trunk floor under the tank. About a month later the light came back on again, I checked the coolant level and it was low, so I started looking for a leak. When I first got the car last spring this light came on and the coolant level was low. The temperature gauge never gets much above 180, and the coolant level always is full. Since it started doing this I have been watching the coolant level and the temperature gauge. I have a 1999 Boxter and am revving up for spring and trying to resolve a problem that cropped up before I put it away last fall the engine coolant light to the right of the temperature gauge is blinking slowly all the time (engine cold, warm, coolant level full). Other threads have taken on this topic but none of the ones I found have solved my problem so I am starting this new thread. ![]()
